MoJoe's Restaurant Owned By Man Arrested On Federal Terrorism Charges Burns In Rochester, New York

Fire destroyed a New York restaurant owned by a man who was arrested on federal terrorism charges last month.

Firefighters responded around 10:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of a fire at the former MoJoe's Restaurant in Rochester, according to The Associated Press.

Firefighters were able to break down the boarded-up door of the building to get inside. Officials say flames destroyed the inside of the restaurant, but no one was injured.

Mufid Elfgeeh, 30, was arrested in June after federal prosecutors said he purchased two unregistered firearms from an undercover FBI agent. Investigators said that Elfgeeh was planning to kill returning American troops and Shi’ite Muslims living in the area over the civil war in Syria.

Elfghee allegedly told the informant in a conversation secretly recorded in December, “ ... It's like (Americans) go to Afghanistan killing everybody. It's like they went to Yemen now killing everybody. Doesn't make no difference.”

Investigators are trying to determine if the fire was set on purpose and if it’s linked to Elfgeeh’s arrest, WHEC.com reports.

Elfgeeh, who was born in Yemen but later obtained U.S. citizenship, is being held in Monroe County Jail.
