Police in Mississippi paid their respects to a fallen officer's daughter.

WDAM reports authorities from the Lamar County Sheriff's Department attended the funeral of Melah Deen, daughter of late Hattiesburg Police Officer Benjamin J. Deen.

Melah, 13, passed away on Nov. 6 from illness, according to the Hattiesburg American.

Her father and his partner Liquori Tate were killed during a traffic stop on May 9. Lamar County Officers laid Benjamin to rest on May 14.

The lights were dimmed and soft music filled the church as officers took turns standing watch over Melah's casket on Nov. 10. One deputy said: "We wanted to be be by her side, because her daddy was not able, and it is our job now to keep up that watch over her, and his family."

She was buried alongside her father.

"This is one of those things that we all have to come together over, to be a part of a law enforcement family is a special thing, and we are there for them," Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel told WDAM.

According to Officer Down Memorial Page, 109 police officers have died in the line of duty in 2015.
