A Minnesota grandfather could face animal abuse charges after a video of his 4-year-old grandson throwing a puppy into the street over and over again went viral.
Police arrested Kevin Strange, the owner of the abused puppy, on unrelated charges Monday, but the man may now also be charged for the treatment of his dog, who authorities took from the family and put up for adoption, according to wnem.com.
The video gained attention after neighbor Karl Collyer filmed the incident, posted it to Facebook and reported it to police.
"The video went on for a little while; that bothered me. But the kid is really the important part," Collyer said.
The young boy, who lives with his mom and grandfather, is now set to get professional help for his cruel treatment of the pet.
“We gotta get this little boy help so that down the road nothing worse happens,” said Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell.
“We can’t allow a little puppy to be treated like that,” Pickell said. “He also has two more dogs.”
Officials are looking into the incident further before officially bringing charges against Strange. They are expected to finish the investigation by the end of the week.
