An Alabama ministry posted an Adolf Hitler quote alongside a Bible verse on a billboard aimed at helping at-risk children.
Posted near an Auburn shopping mall, the billboard features five smiling children. Written in playful child-scrawl, the Hitler quote reads: “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future."
The statement comes from a 1935 speech encouraging German youth to join the Nazis.
Below it is a verse from Proverbs: “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
The billboard belongs to Life-Savers Ministries, a religious group that provides help to at-risk children, according to AL.com.
“Life-Saves Ministries was birthed out of a ‘need.’ A need to reach the weakest and the forgotten, the ‘at risk’ children from the roughest areas, the areas where most either speed by or shun altogether,” says the group’s website.
Area residents have taken to social media to question the use of Bible verses alongside a quote from a man who killed millions of people.
AL.com reports that it was unable to contact anyone from Life-Savers Ministries for comment.
