First Lady Michelle Obama does not plan on running for president (video below).

“I will not run for president,” Obama said while speaking at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. on March 16.

“No, nope, not gonna do it,” she continued.

Obama said her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, are one of the reasons why she would not want to hold the office being vacated by her husband Barack at the end of the year.

“Being the daughters of a president, just think about, come on young people, not so easy. They’ve handled it with grace and with poise, but enough is enough,” she said.

Obama added that there are many ways to “impact the world,” besides by being president.

“You don’t have to be president of the United States to do wonderful, marvelous things,” she said. “I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.”

Obama believes there is a great deal she can do outside of the White House, and possibly more than she has as First Lady because of the constraints, media attention and partisanship.

“There’s a potential that my voice could be heard by many people who can’t hear me now because I’m Michelle Obama the First Lady,” she said. “I want to be able to impact as many people as possible in an unbiased way."

“I think I can do that just as well by not being president of the United States,” Obama added.

While serving as First Lady, Obama has been involved with children’s health initiatives and plans to continue that work after leaving the White House, CNN reports.
