Fox News viewers have taken to social media to criticize a revealing top Megyn Kelly wore while covering the Republican National Convention.

Fox News personality Megyn Kelly garnered outrage from viewers on Twitter after wearing a spaghetti-strap top that revealed her shoulders and upper chest on July 20. Users on the social media service called her attire "unprofessional" while others made references to her recent allegations of sexual harassment by Fox's Roger Ailes, according to Breitbart.

Kelly made the allegations after a lawsuit by former Fox host Gretchen Carlson claimed that Ailes had sexually harassed her. Kelly said that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her in the mid-2000s, when she was a legal correspondent working in Fox's Washington Bureau, NY Magazine reports.

Ailes is reportedly leaving the network, with a deadline of August 1 to resign, or else he will be fired with cause.

In a 2015 interview with Charlie Rose, Kelly described Ailes as a mentor figure, according to USA Today. "I depend on him for friendship and sane, honest advice," she said. "He gives you advice on personal life, who you are and how you're translating on television. He has this X-ray vision into your soul."

After Kelly made her allegations, Ailes spokesperson Irena Briganti criticized Kelly by saying she was selfish not to stand up for a man who had given her career opportunities.

Kelly's top drew a range of reactions of Twitter, with several users arguing that it was inappropriate on a network which encourages its male hosts to wear ties and collared shirts.

"Megyn Kelly’s halter is not appropriate dress for a professional lady at the convention, especially an anchor," said one Twitter user.

"Megyn Kelly's outfit is ridiculously unprofessional. So disappointing," wrote user Heather Ehardt.

User Eric Hagman connected the shirt with the sexual harassment case, saying, "Megyn Kelly seems to be sending some sort of message to Roger Ailes with her dress."

Female television personalities are told to "avoid sleeveless dresses and tops," according to Breitbart, noting that television reporters Ben Fajzullin and Meggin Leigh suggested that female reporters avoid sleeveless attire unless covering a less serious event.

"Unless you are covering a 'light and fluffy' event like a flower show, sleeveless dresses and tops are inappropriate and can make you look unprofessional," said Fajzullin and Leigh.
