Buena Vista Township Clerk Gloria Platko was caught on tape (audio below) calling Township Supervisor Dwayne Parker “an arrogant n*gger," noted Mediaite.com.
The racial slur was made during a conversation in January with Interim Township Manager Dexter Mitchell, who legally recorded the call without Platko’s knowledge because he didn’t want her twisting his words, according to MLive.com.
“He is just doing whatever he can. You know what I think of Mr. Parker right now, and I know you’re not even going to like this,” Platko said. “But he’s just an arrogant n*gger. And I’m sorry to say it that way, but that’s the way I feel.”
The audio was played during an April 22nd meeting of the Buena Vista Township Board of Trustees in Buena Vista, Michigan. After playing the tape, Mitchell called for Platko to resign.
Platko told NBC 25 (video below) that she was “sorry to my five other board members, and I’m entirely sorry to this entire community. I’ve eaten Thanksgiving dinner with black friends at their house. So I’m far from prejudiced. You need to go interview some of the black people who have supported me for the last four or five years.”
“Yea, I probably should’ve used a word like ‘ignoramus’ or something like that, but I didn’t, and I’m sorry for the word I used,” Platko added.
