Dozens of parishioners watched in shock as a community center located across from a church in East Baltimore went up in flames.
According to the Baltimore Sun, firefighters were called regarding a blaze between Gay and Federal streets at just before 9:00 p.m. Despite their better efforts, there wasn’t much they could do for either the center or the nearby apartments.
A 53-year-old man from the area described his disappointment at what had occurred to WBLA TV.
"They built it from the ground up. For elderly people, for old people," Johnson said. "Now it's burned down, man. That don't make no sense. It's burned down."
At the time of this writing, officials have yet to announce whether the fire had anything to do with the ongoing rioting and looting in the city.
