Pop singer Mandy Moore captured international attention after revealing her two brothers and her mother are gay.
Moore has been open about her support for gay rights, posting to social media in support and joy when gay marriage was legalized in the U.S., Refinery 29 reports.
But it is only now she has revealed how close to home the issue is for her.
“I’ve never really talked about this,” she said in a Nov. 29 interview with Byrdie in which she discussed topics ranging from her makeup routine to mental health. “But my parents are divorced. My mother left my father for a woman. And both of my two brothers are gay.”

Although her upbringing may have been tumultuous, she says everybody now is happy that they've accepted themselves.
"[Now my family is] exactly where they should be," she said. "Everyone’s so much happier, richer and more fulfilled, being their authentic selves.”
While things are going well for the 32-year-old Moore, who is now acting in the NBC TV show "This Is Us," she reveals her unusual childhood certainly took its toll later on.
Moore says she married musician Ryan Adams in 2009, when she was only 24, to create a "kind of normalcy" in response.

But Moore eventually realized "that that wasn’t going to be the fruitful experience I wanted it to be.”
The couple divorced six years later, prompting Moore to embark on an emotional healing journey.
"It’s about understanding yourself,” she said, after adding she entered therapy when she and Adams divorced. “I think that’s what all of us are truly trying to get to the core of. Who am I? What makes me tick? Why am I in these specific patterns, and how can I break them?”
Moore says she is now not in such a rush, focusing on healing before moving onto the next stage in her life.
“I want to have kids in the next couple years,” said the singer, who is now dating musician Taylor Goldsmith. “I always said that I want to take care of myself to the best of my ability before I venture into that phase of my life.”
