This Man Is On A Mission To Prove His Name Wrong

| by Emily Smith

The NYPD has identified the man they believe has terrorized subway patrons in a string of brutal robberies as Anthony Coward.

The first incident occurred on March 5 in Queens when a pregnant 26-year-old woman was struck in the head with a silver hammer and robbed. She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital and treated.

“I’m 5’1, 130 pounds…did you really have to hit me behind the head?” the woman asked. “Couldn’t you just take the bag and run?”

A week ago, the man struck again in Brooklyn. Coward allegedly hit a 23-year-old man with a hammer and beat his body with it, then fled with the victim’s wallet.

Most recently, a 32-year-old man buying a MetroCard was struck in the back of the head by a hammer before Coward reportedly demanded money.

Police have described Coward as a 28-year-old man, about 6’1 and 160 pounds. They have also released a photo of him.
