A Boston man came to a woman’s rescue after a teenager allegedly snatched her purse and cellphone.
Jeff Swanson was leaving work for the day on April 29 when he heard a woman screaming and assumed something was wrong, CBS Boston reported (video below).
“I saw some guy running up the middle of the street and his hands were full,” Swanson said. “I didn’t think much of it and then I saw a woman probably 20 yards behind him chasing after him.”
Swanson, who was once a nightclub bouncer, ran after the teen for more than half a block before tackling the him to the ground. He then held the suspect down until police arrived.
“He was just begging me to let him up, begging me to let him go, saying all sorts of stuff,” Swanson explained. “It just wasn’t going to happen.”
Boston Police arrived at the scene shortly after and arrested the teen. Police said the suspect, who is 15 years old, approached the victim and asked her for a cigarette. He then reportedly snatched her purse and iPhone and attempted to run away.
Swanson said the woman thanked him, but he didn’t get her name. Many onlookers took to social media to talk about his heroics and Swanson says he would do it again if he had to.
“You never know if you don’t do something. Simply standing there and filming it or shouting down the street — that doesn’t do anything,” Swanson said. “You’d be surprised the number of people who are willing to help once one person does.”
