A Florida man was arrested after he left his children in his car unattended while drinking in a bar.

According to reports, 28-year-old Joshua Delong was arrested after police found him beaten and bloodied on the ground outside of Dr. B’s Bar in Ocala, Florida. Delong allegedly left his three children in his car alone while he went into the bar to drink, and after a security guard tried to stop him from driving drunk with the kids, an angry patron hit him.

Several other men inside the bar reportedly heard that Delong left his kids in the car by themselves and proceeded to drag him outside and beat him. Before the police arrived, a witness already reported that the three children were by themselves in the vehicle with the windows rolled up.

“We heard honking in the vehicle parked in the parking lot,” said witness Heather Weiss, who discovered the children as she was leaving the bar at 1:30 a.m. and stayed with them until police arrived. “The kids were calling for their dad. They said, 'Daddy does this all the time,' and it was hot, and they had been there since the sun was out.”

After his arrest, Delong allegedly told police that he had left the kids with his mother and his wife had actually dropped them off at the bar without telling him, but both his mother and wife adamantly deny those claims.

Delong has been charged with three counts of child neglect and is being held at Marion County Jail after being treated for injuries sustained in the beating.
