A Texas father has been arrested after police say his 6-month-old daughter was found unresponsive in a hot car outside of their home.

Deputies from the Collin County Sheriff's Office were called around 1:30 p.m. on June 21 to respond to an infant left alone in a vehicle, WFAA reports.

The child was pronounced dead shortly after and her father, Michael Thedford, 33, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He was released from jail on $20,000 bond.

Fabiola Contreras, who lives across the street from Thedford, spoke to WFAA about the incident.

"I saw the ambulance come first," Contreras told the news station. "I just saw them rush into the house."

The neighbor added that detectives arrived soon after and spoke to Thedford for some time in front of his house.

"Before we knew it, he was walking outside with handcuffs," she said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the child's death. Police were told the infant was left in Thedford's car, but it is unclear for how long.
