Maine Teenager Catches Rare Blue Lobster

| by Amanda Schallert

A teenage girl in Maine caught a special blue lobster on Saturday morning, the odds of which are estimated to be one in two million.

The rare lobster, named Skyler, will now reside in the Maine State Aquarium along with three other blue lobsters with the same unusual genetic defect, according to the NY Daily News.

Meghan LaPlante traps numerous lobsters by her home in Old Orchard Beach each year, running a small business from her house. She has about 150 traps set up every year, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The vast majority of lobsters are a blue-green color or have brownish hues on them when they are caught, and then become red when they are cooked.
