A new viral video shows a dog chasing after an ambulance while his owner was being transported to a hospital, giving new meaning to “man’s best friend.”
In the now viral clip, a dog is seen running after an ambulance. The dog is running as fast as he can in order to keep up with the vehicle, and for most of the clip, the active animal is doing a phenomenal job. At one point, however, the dog begins to fall behind, and in that moment, the EMS workers seem to realize that it wouldn’t be right for them to make the dog try to keep up any longer. The ambulance pulls over, and the guys help him get inside to go to the hospital with his owner.
“I've been doing this job for 19 years and I've never seen anything like it,” 42-year-old paramedic Celiomar Ferreira do Couto, the man responsible for the video, said, according to the Daily Mail. “Sometimes we arrive at the scene of an emergency and there are pets around but they are too shy for us to get close to and they often run way. I have never seen this reaction in all my career.”
The dog’s owner, who was being brought to the hospital after suffering an epileptic seizure, reportedly knew that his dog was following behind, and although Couto doesn’t know the status of the man, he says that the dog stayed with the sick man during his hospital stay.
“We couldn't believe how well-behaved the dog was,” Couto said. “It just sat quietly and patiently beside its owner. It didn't even bark. The man was in and out of consciousness but he could see his companion was right there with him on the way. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find out what happened to the pet and its owner, but it has certainly given me faith in the loyalty and love that exists between owners and their dogs.”
