Bill Clinton remained stone-faced while Donald Trump focused on rape accusations against him during the second presidential debate on CNN (video below).
The former president was sitting in the family box during the debate, when Trump brought up the decades-old rape accusations against him. Four of his accusers sat in the audience as invited guests of Trump.
“If you look at Bill Clinton -- far worse. Mine are words and his was action. There’s never been anybody in the history of politics in this nation that’s been so abusive to women. ... Bill Clinton was abusive to women.”
Trump then shamed Hillary Clinton for bringing up the tapes that were released, in which Trump was heard saying sexually explicit things about women and condoning sexual assault.

“So don’t tell me about words,” Trump said. “I absolutely, I apologize for those words. … When Hillary brings up a point like that and she talks about words that I said 11 years ago, I think it’s disgraceful, and I think she should be ashamed of herself.”
Republicans have advised against Trump bringing up Clinton’s past as a means of defense in regard to the tapes.
“Even Republicans around this country [are] making it clear that this is a bad strategy. He's alienated the vast majority of women voters already and this will just seal the deal,” Stephanie Schriock, head of EMILY’s List, told CNN.
“That we could get dragged down to this level on the night of a presidential debate in a very consequential election -- to have it turned into a sideshow and a reality show is profoundly sad,” said David Axelrod, former senior advisor to Pres. Obama.
