Authorities arrested a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy on Monday on 11 felony counts, including charges of rape and soliciting bribes. Jose Rigaberto Sanchez, 28, was also charged with sexual penetration under the color of authority and is currently being held on $1.4 million bail.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has been investigating the case since January 2011 after receiving a tip from an informant. Investigators from the Internal Criminal Investigations Bureau made the arrest, CBS Local reported.
Sanchez was relieved of duty without pay after his arrest Monday. It is believed that the alleged crimes occurred while Sanchez was on duty. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
The deputy was a seven-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was most recently assigned to patrol at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
