Reality television superstar Kim Kardashian was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by five men posing as police officers while staying at a luxury residence in Paris.
The alleged incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 3. Five armed men entered the building, handcuffed the concierge, held him at gunpoint and demanded him to lead them to Kardashian’s room, the Daily Mail reported.
Two of the suspects entered Kardashian’s room, put a gun to her head, tied her up with packaging tape and locked her in the bathroom. They then stole a jewelry box with contents worth $6.7 million, and a ring worth $4.5 million. A source told the Daily Mail the total value of the jewelry stolen could be as high as $16 million.
The suspects, who wore ski masks and clothes with police markings on them, also reportedly stole two of Kardashian’s smartphones. Kardashian’s personal bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, was pictured out with Kardashian's sister, Kourtney Kardashian, the night of the robbery, suggesting he was not at the hotel when the incident took place.
Kardashian’s two children, 3-year-old North and 10-month-old Saint, were also not believed to be in the room at the time of the robbery.
“Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening by armed masked men dressed as police officers,” Kardashian's spokesperson, Ina Treciokas, told the Daily Mail. “She is badly shaken but physically unharmed.”
Kardashian was in Paris for Paris Fashion Week. She had just returned to her room after having dinner when the alleged attack happened. She has since returned to the U.S.
“She’s very pleased to be heading back to the United States,” said a source close to the case, according to the Daily Mail. “She has given a full statement for the police.”
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo condemned the attack. She said in a statement she is confident police will identify the suspects and arrest them. Hidalgo added that Kardashian will “always be welcome in Paris.”
A photographer is currently being questioned by police, the Daily Mail reports. The photographer had been following Kardashian since she arrived in Paris, and is believed to have gained access to a restaurant where she and her family were dining earlier this week by posing as a police officer.
The robbery also forced Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West, to cut his headlining set at the Meadows Music and Arts Festival in Queens, New York, 20 minutes early. According to Twitter user, Stephen Dacres, who attended the festival, Kanye’s assistant pulled him to the side during his set and told him the news.
In a fan-recorded video (below), West is seen performing his 2008 hit single “Heartless,” when he suddenly asks to cut the music.
“I'm sorry. I have a family emergency,” West is heard telling the audience. “I have to stop the show.”
The Meadows also took to Twitter to confirm that Kanye did have a family emergency he needed to attend to.
