A Cleveland police officer and a 9-year-old bonded over their Pokemon collections (video below).

Bryce, 9, has been collecting Pokemon cards, which he keeps in a binder, since he was 6 years old, according to WJW.

"They told me that Pokemon is a huge thing and they showed me their cards, gave me a few and that's how I started out my collection," Bryce told the news station.

In May, Bryce was on his way to a friend’s house when another kid reportedly stole the binder out of his hands and ran away. His mother called the police, who were able to find the thief with help from the community.

"Some of the neighborhood kids were actually able to help us locate this boy," Officer Jimmy Grotenrath told CNN. "We talked to the boy's parents and the parents confronted the boy. He brought the cards back out and handed them over and apologized."

However, after the binder was recovered, Bryce discovered that some of his cards were still missing.

"I grew up with Pokemon, I loved Pokemon as a kid and I would be heartbroken too if my cards were taken from me," Grotenrath told WJW.

After the ordeal, Grotenrath went above and beyond to help the 9-year-old Pokemon enthusiast.

"I knew I had some old Pokemon cards at home," Grotenrath explained to CNN. "So I looked in the closet and noticed a binder. […] I told my sergeant and lieutenant I had some cards I wanted to give [Bryce], so the next day my partner and I went back to his house."

Bryce was excited to see the 26-year-old officer’s binder.

"He was grinning from cheek to cheek," Grotenrath said. "He said he had two uncles who were Cleveland police officers as well […] and he told his mom he has a brand-new favorite officer."

Grotenrath added that he doesn't regret giving the binder to the 9-year-old.

"It's a priceless item, but it's better to see someone else smile, and in my book, like my partner says, it's just happy to see a citizen smile instead of always frowning upon us and looking the other way," he told WJW.
