An Oklahoma man was arrested on two outstanding warrants last week, but that didn’t stop him from popping the big question to his girlfriend.
Justin Harrel, 32, of Elk City was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend Elaina Rios at the city’s “Christmas In The Park,” last Friday when an officer spotted him. The officer discovered Harrel had two outstanding warrants out in two counties and went in for the arrest.
Harrel pushed the officer away, and asked for just five minutes, according to News 9.
“I advised Justin that he was under arrest and directed him to turn around and place his hands behind his back,” the arresting officer wrote in his police report. “He just said, ‘Steven, let’s talk about this. Give me five minutes.’”

Harrel explained to the officer that he was about to propose to his girlfriend and the officer allowed him to complete the proposal. The officer handed Harrel the ring from his pocket because he was in handcuffs.
Rios eventually said yes, the Huffington Post reports.
Harrel had outstanding warrants out for obtaining cash or merchandize by a fake check, according to court documents. He was not cited for resisting an officer.
Rios told News 9 that her now-fiancée is just misunderstood.

“We’re best friends. He completes me. He’s my rock and I’m his rock. Everybody thinks he’s a bad guy and he’s not,” Rios told News 9.
Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland said the case was an example of “policing at its best with a heart.”
