The Irish store Primark has recently come under fire for its use of overly thin mannequins.
The storefront mannequins were so thin that they not only featured concave stomachs, but also had jutted-out rib cages.
A customer tweeted an image of one of their midriff baring mannequins and wrote, “Dear @Primark, is it really necessary that these new mannequins have protruding ribs? ..I’d just like to see mannequins in all different shapes and sizes in all stores rather than young girls thinking this is the only way to be.”
Primark removed the window display, but not before the picture spread across the internet; the picture was shared more than 1400 times.
A similar incident occurred earlier this year when another store, La Perla, featured a “dangerously thin” mannequin in its Manhattan branch. The store apologized and removed its mannequin after a customer tweeted a complaint.
Gap and Zara are also amongst the list of stores who have been criticized for the diminutive sizes of their display mannequins.
