Inmate Chops Off His Own Penis Because He Wasn't Granted Early Release

| by Dominic Kelly

A death row inmate thought that he was getting a Presidential pardon during a ceremony where 50 prisoners were set free, but when he discovered that he was not on the list, he decided to chop off his own penis.

Francis Karuri had spent 15 years in jail already when he believed that, this time around, President Uhuru Kenyatta would pardon him. It’s a tradition in Kenya for the president to grant pardons to a set number of inmates on national holidays.

When Karuri discovered that his name was not on the list, he took a razor blade and chopped his penis off. Karuri’s reason for doing so was reportedly because he would never be able to use it again.

Karuri continued to work after chopping off his penis, but he eventually passed out because of blood loss. Prison guards found him unconscious in his cell, lying in a pool of his own blood, an hour after the maiming.

The inmate was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to reattach his penis. According to Karuri’s friends, the man had really expected to be pardoned and was looking forward to seeing his family and friends for Christmas upon release.

Reports also claim that Karuri had been depressed for several months and had even been transferred to a part of the prison for inmates with mental health issues. It is likely that Karuri will spend the rest of his life in jail.
