Loxahatchee, Fla. – New and unusual details have emerged in a deadly DUI crash that occurred in March.
Matthew Notebaert was driving approximately 55mph in a 30mph zone when his car crashed into a canal. He was reportedly driving down the wrong side of the road, and passed right by several dead-end warnings. According to the arrest report, he did not break before impact.
The car sailed 30 feet over the canal before crashing into the canal’s far side. Neither Notebaert nor his wife, Amanda, was wearing a seatbelt.
The speed at which Notebaert was driving wasn’t the only problem with scene: Amanda was sitting in his lap at the time of the accident.
Both Matthew and Amanda were reportedly naked from the waist down.
Amanda, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew, 30, suffered serious injuries.
On Wednesday, Matthew Notebaert was a charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI property damage.
The arrest report stated that in addition to having been drunk and having had his wife seated in his lap, Notebaert also had marijuana in his system.
The accident occurred just one block away from the Notebaerts’ home.
“They’re a young couple that just had a baby,” the couple’s neighbor, Charlie Smith, said. “It’s very, very sad.”
