Disturbing new reports claim that a Pakistani man chopped off his wife’s legs with an axe after the two got into a heated argument.
Muhammed Siddique was reportedly fighting with wife number two Memoona Bibi when he grabbed an axe and proceeded to brutally hack off both of the woman’s legs. Before deciding to chop off his wife’s legs, he had already been beating her with a stick. According to reports, Siddique has a history of abuse and started abusing Bibi just days after they got married last month.

Following the attack, neighobors apparently restrained Siddique while Bibi was taken to the hospital. Siddique was promptly turned in to the police, and it is not known what charges he currently faces. Bibi is now in the hospital recovering from her disturbing amputation.
Pakistan reportedly has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the world. A 2012 article from The Atlantic notes that “more than 1,000 women and girls murdered in ‘honor killings’ every year and reported that 90 percent of Pakistani women suffer from domestic violence.”
