A New York City man who decided to take a nap on a subway train got the surprise of his life when he woke up and saw what was crawling on him (video below).

New York resident Antony Lin, 31, said he was riding the last 7 train from the 34th Street/Hudson Yards subway stop in Manhattan around 3 a.m. on March 27 when he saw a large rat crawling on a sleeping passenger in a seat near him, NBC 4 New York reported.

The unidentified passenger, who was wearing khaki pants and a black coat, was sitting upright in the seat as the rodent crawled onto his lap and up the front of his jacket.

Lin recorded the moment on his phone. He then posted the video clip to Instagram with the caption: "3AM on the 7 train. MTA subways come equipped with cuddly rats," according to NY Daily News.

When the rat crawled onto the man's neck, he woke up screaming and "ran into the next car fast as hell," Lin wrote on Instagram.

According to Lin, a couple who was riding in the same train also moved to another car after they spotted the rat.

"It's just insane and disgusting overall to see that," Lin told NBC 4 New York. "I've seen [rats] on the tracks and platform, but never inside the train."

New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton released a statement in February warning subway commuters to stay awake while taking public transit in order to avoid becoming victims of robbery and other crimes.

"Subways are not for sleeping," Bratton said, according to NY Daily News. "I know people have gotten out of work and are tired, but we are going to start waking people up."
