Hooters isn't exactly the first place that comes to mind when trying to think of restaurants to take mom to on Mother's Day, but this year it might be.

The company is offering a free drink and entree, up to $10, to all mothers on Mother's Day.

They have been around for 30 years, but are just now trying to change up their image to attract more women to the male-dominated restaurant.

"It's not as diabolical as you think…we know you don't think of Hooters as a typical place to take mom, but we want to make it more appealing for mom to come in," Dave Henninger, chief marketing officer at Hooters, said.

Hooters has actually made some progress in its effort to make its image more women-friendly. In 2011, one in four customers were women and now that it has revamped its menu to include salads, one in three customers are women.

They expect to serve 20,000 mothers on Sunday.

Robert Thompson, a professor of pop culture at Syracuse University, is less convinced.

"For a woman to walk into a place called Hooters that new Cobb salad had better be awfully good," he said.

It is no wonder the restaurant is trying to get in on some of the Mother's Day profit, as Yahoo Finance recently noted that Americans spend nearly $21 billion, or $168.94 per mom, on the special day.
