Heroic Mailman Darrian Crutcher Helps Put Out Home Fire, Then Continues Deliveries After Firefighters Arrive

| by

A quick-thinking mailman in Detroit helped control a fire at a family’s home before continuing on his route once firefighters got to the scene.

When firefighters arrived at a house on fire they found mailman Darrian Crutcher upstairs putting the fire out with the home's garden hose, according to WJBK.

Crutcher reportedly got the hose from the side of the house, took it inside and hooked it up and began to fight the fire. He continued to battle the blaze until firefighters arrived.

"I said, 'Ok, they there. The real firemen is here now so I can go ahead and do my job,'" Crutcher said.

The mailman is downplaying any talk that he’s a hero, but the homeowner couldn’t be happier that he was there at the time of the incident.

"He was spraying [the fire] down and everything and knocked [the fire] down quite a bit," Carolyn Patterson stated.  "I think this room probably would've burned up. I really do."

Mail Online reports that firefighters have also praised Crutcher's quick thinking. David Weems of the Detroit Fire Department said he suggested the mailman joined them after doing such a great job.

"He did great! I asked him after it was over, I said, 'Hey man, you should come join us! We're hiring right now!'"

The fire is believed to have started after Patterson lit incense.
