Hero Pit Bull Puppy Halts Rape (Photo)

| by Denise Recalde

A 5-month-old pit bull puppy saved his owner's girlfriend from being raped while the two were out for a walk in Brooklyn, New York, on Nov. 28. The puppy fiercely bit the attacker and drove the man away.

"He's a good boy. I think he saved my life," said Maya Fairweather, 18, of the dog, named Apollo.

Fairweather was taking the dog out for a walk in the Red Hook Recreation Area park in Brooklyn at around 10 p.m. with her headphones on when she was attacked by a man.

"I felt someone pull my headphones," she told the New York Post. "I thought it was my boyfriend grabbing me, so I turned around and smiled -- but it wasn’t my boyfriend."

The stranger allegedly grabbed her by the jacket, pushed her to the ground and attempted to pull off her pants.

"I fell down on my hands," Fairweather said. "I just closed my eyes because they say that if you see their face, they will kill you. I froze. I was really scared."

The puppy's leash was in her pocket, Fairweather said, which probably explains why the attacker did not realize she had a dog with her.

"Apollo helped me; he came and bit him in the leg," she said.

The pit bull reportedly bit the assailant so hard, it took him a moment to shake him off.

“I heard him say, ‘F***!’ and I was able to run away. I ran across the street,” Fairweather said.

She says the attacker fled into the night as soon as the dog let him go.

"He was protective," Fairweather said of Apollo. "I think it would’ve been a lot worse. I wouldn’t have been so lucky. He is a sweet dog. I never thought he would bite anyone. He never bit anyone before. He’s usually very friendly and just jumps on everyone."

Fairweather was eventually taken to the local police station to file a report by her boyfriend's sister, Destiny Guzman, 20.

Police are actively looking for the attacker.

"I wasn’t there, but I know that that dog saved her life," said Guzman. "If it wasn’t for that dog, things would be a lot worse. [Fairweather is] tiny."

“I really never wanted that dog. But you have to give him credit,” said Carlos Guzman’s mother, Sonia Valcarcel, reports Life Daily. “The dog is a hero, he protected her. I’m sad she had to go through that, but at least, because of the dog, she was able to escape.”
