5 Killed in Tourist Helicopter Crash Outside Las Vegas

A luxury sightseeing helicopter ride from Las Vegas to the Hoover Dam turned tragic Wednesday when the chopper crashed, killing all five people on board.

The helicopter crashed into the River Mountains surrounding Lake Mead at about five o'clock in the afternoon. The remote site is about 30 miles from the Vegas strip and it is not accessible by road, which hampered rescue and recovery efforts and is now slowly the investigation.

Four passengers and the pilot were killed. The tour company, Sundance Helicopter, did not reveal the names of the victims.

It is too early to speculate on what went wrong, but there were no reported weather issues that could have caused a crash.

The 30-minute "Twilight City Tour" flies over downtown Las Vegas, the Vegas Strip, and Hoover Dam. Prices start at $210 per person.
