Women Buying, Getting Guns for Christmas Presents

| by Michael Allen

There are about 300 million guns on the streets of America, and there are likely to be many more this Christmas.

One of the growing demographics for gun ownership is women.

According to the National Sporting Goods Association, the number of women who are into shooting sports jumped by 51 percent between 2001 and 2011.

Gun manufacturers are meeting this demand with hot pink guns and accessories.

“They’re making a special effort to be user friendly to the female market and not be as intimidating,” Dean White, of Shooter’s Express in Mount Holly, N.C., told the Gaston Gazette. “[Women] want to be able to take care of themselves."

“Guns are more of a personal decision,” White added. “Everyone has their individual preferences. Rather than making a $1,000 mistake, get her a gift card or let her come in and shoot it to see what she likes.”

Popular items at Shooter’s Express include: Gun Tote’n Mama purses (with a compartment to hold a gun), pink Susan G. Komen carrying cases, and even pink handguns and shotguns.

"You would be surprised at what kinds of guns they are buying for Christmas presents. We have ladies who are buying their own AR-15s," Richard Presutti, with Gator Gun & Knife in Bossier City, La., told KSLA.

"You guys out there who are thinking of stealing something from them ladies, you better watch out," added Presutti.
