A shooting at Faulkner University has left a woman in stable but serious condition after her husband shot her on campus in the middle of the day. Alabama police said the shooting took place near a maintenance building and that no other students were in danger. After the shooting, some students received a text message that read: “(Active Shooter on Campus) Emergency! Armed person on campus. Go to nearest room and lock door. If off campus, do not enter campus. Follow instructions from auth.”

Although school officials did place the campus on lockdown, a number of students and faculty never received the text message. An investigation into how the alert system failed is ongoing.

The husband of the victim has been arrested and is facing attempted murder charges. His name has not been released at this time, the Inquisitr reported.

“She tried running away and she was just shot more,” said eyewitness Saul Calderon-Zavala. “And he got into his car and drove off.”
