A Wisconsin woman was horrified to discover what she thought was a gory Halloween decoration was actually a bullet-ridden corpse.
The bodies of Melissa Tuinstra and Justin Daniels, both 28, were found in Berlin late Saturday. The couple had just recently begun dating.
Police charged Tuinstra’s estranged husband, 33-year-old Nicholas Tuinstra, with double murder on Tuesday.
Melissa had filed for divorce from her husband last week, WLUK-TV reported.
“Oh my God ... I’m just scared,” a crying 911 caller tells a dispatcher. “There’s nothing, there’s blood. We didn’t know if it was a Halloween joke or something so we touched her to see if it was a person.”
“Is she breathing?” the dispatcher asked.
“I don’t think so,” she sobbed.
Tuinstra’s body was found outside. Daniels' body was found in an upstairs apartment.
An Amber Alert was issued for the couple’s 8-year-old daughter, but authorities later learned she was with her grandparents and was not home at the time of the attack.
"This was domestic violence," said Berlin Police Captain Kevin Block.
Investigators say they are still searching for the handgun used in the crime. They urged hunters to keep a lookout for the gun as they pass through woods.
