Becca Campbell reportedly shot herself in the head by accident with a handgun that she bought to protect herself from possible Ferguson riots.

The fatal shooting happened last Friday night in St. Louis, Mo., where Campbell was riding in her unidentified boyfriend's car.

According to CNN, the boyfriend told officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department that he and Campbell had bought gun because of a grand jury's upcoming decision on whether or not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for killing Michael Brown on Aug. 9.

The boyfriend reportedly said that Campbell waved the gun in jest and said they were ready for Ferguson.

However, the boyfriend ducked to avoid the gun and reportedly rear-ended another car. That accident caused the gun to fire and strike Campbell in the head, noted Talking Points Memo.

Campbell was taken to a local hospital, but died.

St. Louis police are still investigating the incident.
