Video: NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg Slams Weak Gun Laws
Appearing on NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg slammed weak gun laws, lack of funding of current gun laws and lack of background checks in America (video below).
He also mentioned Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' shooting last year and asked what it was going to take for tougher gun laws.
Bloomberg said: "You’d think that if a congresswoman got shot in the head, that would have changed Congress’ views. I can tell you how to change it, just get Congress to come with me to the hospital when I’ve got tell tell somebody that their son or daughter, their spouse, their parent is not going to come home again."
The mayor added: "Congress doesn’t give moneys to make sure we can have a background check. They have too many loopholes. The background databases aren’t up to date. Private sector sales of guns are something like 40 percent and they don’t do background checks, I don’t know who has to get killed for people to start saying ‘wait a second, this is enough."

Tell you what, Why don't we take away all the armed guards that the Mayor of New York gets first. Then we'll have him live in the highest crime district in the city. We'll order the police to treat him just like everyone else, except if the mayor protects himself with a gun, we will prosecute to the full extent of the law and he can only have public defenders. Then he can find out what it means when normal citizens say "when seconds count the police are only minutes away!" This way we can be assured of "Equal Protection under the law". Guns aren't the problem, criminals and laws that prevent guys like Jared Loughner from getting the help they need are the problem. Everyone in the neighborhood knew he was troubled, but since he was deemed "not a threat" to himself or others, he was allowed to sink deeper into his psychosis until "majically" he became a threat to himself or others. Just like the Mayor of New York, he was a left wing nut, maybe that is the first sign he should have been locked up.
