Vice President Joe Biden mocked what he called the anti-gun control “black helicopter crowd” in a White House speech today for spreading rumors that universal background checks will lead to mass gun confiscation (video below), reports WashingtonExaminer.com.

“Kinda scary man, the black helicopter crowd is really upset,” Vice President Biden said. “No way that Uncle Sam can go find out whether you own a gun because we’re about to really take away all your rights and you’re not going to be able to defend yourself and we’re going to swoop down with Special Forces folks and gather up every gun in America. It’s bizarre. But that’s what’s being sold out there.”

Eight Republican Senators support bringing the gun control package to a vote. If that number holds, then Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has the 60 votes that he needs to bypass a GOP filibuster.

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) likely has the votes on gun control legislation to clear its first procedural hurdle, a victory for the gun control community, though one that hardly guarantees the bill's passage," reports HuffingtonPost.

"The majority leader announced on Tuesday evening he would submit for a vote the bill to expand background checks, implement a federal trafficking statute, and enhance school safety measures. That would set up a Senate vote on Thursday."
