A home-schooled Texas teenager was arrested this week for killing his parents, who reportedly controlled most aspects of his life.
The 16-year-old boy allegedly shot his parents Ryan and Elena Callens around 2 a.m. Monday. His parents, who were about 50 years old, reportedly monitored much of the teen’s behavior. They barred him from drinking soda, restricted his internet activity and did not let him watch R-rated movies, according to the Daily Mail.
Neighbors said that the teenager was “very sheltered” and was not exposed to much violence, since they would prohibit the teen from watching violence even during PG-13 movies.
Other teenagers in the neighborhood in Frisco, Texas, said that the teenager would be punished whenever he broke his parents’ many strict rules.
Popular VideoThis judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:
“His parents were really uptight on him,” said William Castillo, who played sports with the boy, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The teenager was the youngest of five siblings. One of the family’s other children was reportedly home at the time of the crime.
Some neighbors said they were surprised by the incident because the teenager was a “good kid.”
“From what we saw, he had a very good heart,” said Nikki Williston, a 15-year-old from the neighborhood.
The case is still under investigation.
