Texas School District Arming Teachers With Guns

| by Dominic Kelly

A school in Argyle, Texas is warning people that some of the teachers in their school will be armed in an effort to protect them from violence.

The controversial practice has officially been put into place at Argyle Independent School District (ISD), and in order to let people know that teachers are packing, the school is displaying a sign for everyone to see.

“Please be aware that the staff at Argyle ISD are armed and may use whatever force is necessary to protect our students,” reads the sign.

Back in January, the district voted for the implementation of school marshals, and now, under the Protection of Texas Children Act, some teachers are being allowed to carry weapons on campus as long as they undergo psychological evaluation, gun training and obtain a license.

“I trust that the administrators of this school district will put my kid’s best interest at heart,” said parent Lacey Fenoglio to KDAF. “I think if a tragedy does occur, lives can be saved by guns being in the right hands, and I think the teachers here might be able to stop something like that and life can be saved.”

The controversial policy comes in the midst of the ongoing gun control debate across the country, especially after an increase in the prevalence of school massacres. The Argyle ISD hopes that allowing some teachers to be armed will help thwart violence.
