Teenager Corey Dunton Arrested For NYC Bryant Park Ice Skating Rink Shooting After Posting About It On Facebook
A string of unusual shootings have plagued New York City recently, with one murder-suicide occurring in a Brooklyn apartment, seemingly as a result of a band dispute, and another occurring in the Bryant Park skating rink, a popular and public tourist destination. Police have taken in a suspect in the latter incident, charging the 16-year-old Bronx native Corey Dunton with attempted murder and several other charges.
Dunton allegedly fired shots after a fight over a $600 jacket with another teen escalated. While the intended target was shot in the arm, he was not seriously injured. A 14-year-old innocent bystander was shot in the back and may not walk again, according to CBS News.
Police initiated the arrest in the tragic event after finding a message that Dunton posted on Facebook. “Bryant Park lookin to litt Saterday Gotta Bring Da. amp for This,” Dunton had written as a status update on the site immediately prior to the shooting, indicating his involvement.
The teenager then took to the social media network again as the police attempted to make his arrest. While the officers continuously pounded on his door for over an hour, Dunton repeatedly made suicide threats and further indicated his involvement in the shooting via his status updates.
“FEDS AT MY DOOR IM GOIN OUT WITH A BANG,” Dunton wrote in one post. Other posts include, “THESE N***** GUNNA HAVE TO TAKE ME OUT TAKE MY LIFE THESE N***** BEEN BANGIN FOR LIKE A F****** HOUR I AINT GOIN TO JAIL I REATHER TAKE MY LIFE!!” and “FEDS TRIEN KICK DOWN MY DOOR ITS OVER WERE DO I GO FROM HEREEEEE MANNNNN DO I END MY LIFE IDK WAT TO DO I F***ED UP.”
Despite the horrific events that occurred on Friday night, regular activity resumed at the skating rink the following evening.
