South Carolina Republican Hosts Gun Giveaway, Racist Pro-Gun Advocate

| by Michael Allen

South Carolina Sen. Lee Bright is one of four Republicans running against U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in the state's June 10 primary.

As part of his campaign, Bright advertised a free BBQ this week for people to meet Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt.

Bright's campaign website stated:

Team Bright will be having a free BBQ for our supporters to thank them for being part of the largest grassroots army in the state of South Carolina. Join Senator Lee Bright, Tea Party activist Emery McClendon, and Gun Owners of America Executive Director Larry Pratt for music and BBQ in Downtown Greenville!

Bright also plugged a gun giveaway at the same event, which he started doing earlier this year when he gave away an AR-15 assault rifle, noted The Huffington Post.

Bright wrote on his Facebook page:

Want the chance to win a brand new Ruger SR9C 9mm handgun? RSVP now to attend our FREE BBQ in Greenville on Monday, where we'll announce the lucky winner! Also, Larry Pratt from Gun Owners of America will be speaking.

However, Bright didn't mention the racist comments made by Pratt back in Feb.

According to RightWingWatch.org, Pratt complained about the "surliness" of black people in America who could learn how to behave from black people in Africa (audio below).

“Generally, the African from Africa is a very pro-American person, a very happy person,” said Pratt. “I know several. And they always just happy with a joke, pleasant smile on their face. And they clearly don’t identify with the surliness that’s all too frequently the attitude of their fellow African-Americans here.”

Pratt has also expressed his support for the Cliven Bundy militia against the U.S. government, advocated teaching kids that guns are just like toy water pistols and falsely claimed that Obamacare will take away people's guns.

But none of this deterred Bright who posted about the BBQ on his Facebook page today:

Thank you to everyone who attended our BBQ in Greenville yesterday! And a special thanks to Larry Pratt and Emery McClendon for coming to speak.
