Seven NFL Players Turn in their Guns

| by Michael Allen

Seven NFL players have turned their guns into their teams' security guards following the murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, reported Sports Illustrated's Peter King on NBC's 'Football Night in America' on Sunday.

One player handed over multiple firearms, telling his team's security personnel that he didn't trust himself with the guns, according to the report.

Belcher shot his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, at their Kansas City home on Dec. 1. He then shot himself in the head in front of Chiefs' general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Harvard Injury Control Research Center reports that the gun death rates are seven times higher in states with high household gun ownership rates. Also, a study by the American Journal of Epidemiology said that having a gun in the home doubles the chances of a homicide.
