During a forum on gun control on Tuesday, Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) was asked by a senior citizen how he would win a shootout under the state’s new gun laws. The elderly man was concerned about having to switch magazines during a firefight, reports Mediaite.com (video below).
“The good news for you, you live in Denver," Rep. Degette joked. "The Denver PD would be there within minutes. You’d probably be dead anyway if they had that kind of firepower.”

At the same forum, Rep. DeGette added: "I will tell you these are ammunition, bullets, so the people who have those now they are going to shoot them, and so if you ban, if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available."
However, gun advocates slammed Rep. DeGette because magazines are reusable and can be loaded with more bullets, reports the Denver Post.
Rep. DeGette's spokeswoman issued a statement saying that Rep. DeGette "simply misspoke" and "she should have referred to 'clips,' which cannot be reused."
