Police Shoot Man That Shot And Killed Burglar Outside His Home

Two men died at a shooting involving police officers. According to multiple witness sources, 30-year-old Jerry Hale intended to break into the home of 57-year-old William Hall. Hall confronted Hale in the alley outside of his home and fired multiple shots. Police claim that Hale lay on the ground and begged for mercy, but Hall shot and killed him.

Witnesses in the area had heard the initial gun shots and alerted the police, CBS Dallas reports. They confronted Hall, urging him not to shoot Hale because police were on the way.

David Murphrey, one of the witnesses on the scene, explained that he pleaded with Hall to remain calm. “I said, ‘No, don’t kill him. I’ve already called the cops. Cops are on the way.’ He said, ‘Good, I’m going to kill him and then I’m going to shoot them, too.’ I said, ‘Oh, my God,’” Murphrey told CBS.

Other witnesses recalled a similar experience. “Before the cops came, we told him to put the gun down. We said the cops are coming. He didn’t care. He, after that, said, ‘I’m going to shoot him again.’ He just pointed the gun at him. We’re like, ‘No! No! Don’t! Don’t!’ He just pointed the gun at us and we ducked. We were scared for our lives,” witness Juan Garcia said.

Officers and other witnesses explained that Hall aimed his gun at the law enforcement officers that arrived at the scene. When they told him to put his weapon down, he cocked it instead. Officers fired multiple shots at Hall and ultimately killed him. No police officers were injured in the incident.

Neighbors claim that Hall’s house has been boarded up for years, and that he was a relatively mysterious figure in the neighborhood. His relationship with Hale is unclear, but initial reports seem that neither man knew each other, and that Hale was attempting to break into the house that he believed to be empty.
