Open Carry Texas Cancels Armed March in Black Houston Neighborhood

The Houston chapter of Open Carry Texas cancelled an event in the Fifth Ward, a predominantly black neighborhood, that was scheduled for yesterday.

On a Facebook events page, which has since been removed, the Houston chapter of Open Carry Texas told their members to "make this a big event" and "once again show that gun rights belong to all," notes Talking Points Memo.

Open Carry Texas claims the armed gun walk was postponed because its founder C.J. Grisham was at another armed demonstration in the much-smaller Big Spring, Tx.

David Amad, a member of Open Carry Texas, told the Houston Press that the delay will give the gun group time to communicate with the Fifth Ward community prior to the armed march.

"If you go marching through the Fifth Ward like a bunch of stuffy old white boys carrying guns and spitting tobacco you'll get a bad response, but if you go in there talking to people like human beings and explain what you're doing, the response will be different," stated Amad.
