NRA's Obama-Conspiracy Theory Driving Up Gun Sales

article image

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre has claimed repeatedly that President Obama wants a second term so that he can “get busy dismantling and destroying our firearms’ freedom."

The conspiracy theory has proven to be a bonanza for the gun industry. Manufacturers literally cannot produce guns fast enough to keep up with demand.

The gun companies that benefit from LaPierre driving up anti-Obama paranoia are also many of the biggest funders of the NRA and its lobbying arm.

CrainsDetroit.com reports:

Royal Oak-based Target Sports normally sells about 10 guns a day, but that has increased to 30 a day this year, owner Ray Jihad said.

He’d be selling even more, if he could get them.

I don’t have any Rugers. There are a few models we sell a lot of, but I can’t even get them,” he said. Southport, Conn.-based Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc., which makes rifles and handguns, has been so swamped with orders that it has stopped taking new requests until the end of May...

Worries about stricter gun laws after the upcoming presidential election are the driving force behind the firearms sales surge, said Lawrence Keane, senior vice president and general counsel at the nonprofit Newtown, Conn-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry’s trade association.

“There is significant concern among the consumers that in a second term by the administration they will pivot on the gun issue and pursue policies that will restrict their Second Amendment rights,” Keane said.

The NRA appeals to the lowest

The NRA appeals to the lowest common denominator of unintelligent people in this nation who are simply paranoid, deluded, and fall for conspiracies and fear that their toys, I mean guns, will be taken away from them. If these people took the time to think rationally, assuming they are even capable of that, they'd realize most gun control laws are pretty specific and make good common sense. We don't want whackos going out and killing fellow students in schools, or at our politicians. Some common sense needs to prevail on this issue, and frankly, the NRA is being terribly irresponsible in driving fear-mongering. It is a sad reflection on our society.

At what point does an individual have "enough" weaponry? If you are a collector, I can see owning several. However, since you can reasonably carry at most two maybe three pistols at a time, what does one more do for you?

It's not paranoid when it's a fact. His intent can be found in his own words on numerous occasions. Perhaps we all should take a closer look at what Obama has said about all the rights enjoyed Americans and how he opposes them.
