Anti-violence groups are appalled at The National Rifle Association’s endorsement of a shooting target that looks like a scantily clad woman and actually bleeds when shot. Called “The Ex” the target is styled as a zombiefied ex-girlfriend.

“This is outrageous and dangerous,” said senior staff attorney at the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence Laura Cutilletta. “Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women in the United States.”

“This reprehensible product stokes the fire of relationship violence which already claims far too many of our mothers, daughters and sisters,” she said.

The target mannequin is made by Zombie Industries, whose vendor at the NRA convention in Houston last week was asked to remove a target they sell that looks like President Obama. That target, the “Bleeding Rocky Zombie,” does not appear on the company’s website.

A police officer saw a young black couple drive by and pulled them over. What he did next left them stunned:

According to the National Organization for Women (NOW), an average of 3 women per day were killed by an intimated partner in 2005. NOW reported that one third of murdered women in the U.S. were killed by an intimated partner.

Women in the U.S. are nearly four times as likely to be killed by an intimate partner compared to men, according to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Feministing.com reported the listing for “The Ex” stated: “to discriminate against Women by not having them represented in our product selection would be just plain sexist.”

Zombie Industries changed the name of “The Ex” after criticism. Now the mannequin is called the “Bleeding Alexa Zombie.”

“The intention of the company was never to discriminate against women or promote violence against women,” said company marketing director Roger Davis.

Unfortunately Alexa’s back-story does not do much to redeem The Ex. Her back-story appears to suggest she deserved to die because she wanted a married man to leave his wife for her.

From Louisiana, Alexa appears to be a home wrecker turned Undead when a Voodoo Witch cast a spell on her:

Alexa was from Louisiana and was always drawn to the occult. She had a wicked mean streak in her and was known for her nasty disposition, especially if she had been drinking. She also happened to be in love with a young man, but there was a slight problem.. he was married to another women. When he told her that he loved his wife and could never be unfaithful to her, Alexa became enraged. She decided to seek the help of a local tarot card & palm reader who also dabbled in Voodoo. When she told the Voodoo Witch of her plan to break up a loving a marriage.. the witch refused to help her. That’s when Alexa lost her cool for the last time and crossed the wrong person. She let out a slew of insults directed at the witch and told her she would get her way one way or another. That’s when the Voodoo Witch cast a spell of her own. Alexa never knew what hit her and before she reached her home that evening she joined the ranks of the Undead!

Commenters at the bottom of the product listing have nothing but good things to say about the target.

"I love that this target looks like Britney Spears and it bleeds when I shot it," said commenter Brian.
