New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Says Gun "Confiscation Could be an Option"
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently told Albany radio station WGDJ-AM that he plans to propose gun control legislation during his State of the State address on Jan. 9, reports the New York Times.
Gov. Cuomo said: “I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting.' There is a balance here, I understand the rights of gun owners.”
“Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun, but permit it.”
Cuomo suggested that the state will institute a permit process for owners of semi-automatic “assault weapons.”
The Democrat-controlled New York Assembly has voted for a number of proposed gun control laws that have failed in the State Senate, which has been controlled by Republicans.

Sure, it's an "option".
So too is it an "option" for someone sworn to the defense of the Constitution to do his or her duty against one of its enemies domestic. Mr. Cuomo would do well to remember this.

There is no such thing as a semi-automatic assault rifle. If it is an assault rifle then it is capable of fully automatic fire. Aren't those already controlled ?

No, you don't. Apparently all that you understand is the power - NOT right - of government to initiate force. Government, ALL government derives it's powers from the electorate which includes gun owners.
You, governor, were elected to discharge the philosophical will of the people: not an individual emotional disposition.
He is proving that the NRA
He is proving that the NRA has been telling the truth all these years: that registration leads to confiscation. Since confiscation has historically led to genocide and other evils of despotic government, can anyone really blame the NRA for it's stand? A big lie is "it can't happen here". That's what they said when this has happened other places.
Talking heads who know
Talking heads who know nothing about what they espouse, pandering to sheeple who like to hear how the Goverment will protect them if only they where allowed to suspend these rights which mean nothing to the sheeple. But as for those of us who believe in self reliance and self preservation and believe that others have those same inailenable God given rights, although this number keeps dwindling,we Do not wish to be disarmed. I agree about the issue of talking past each other, but as long as you leave law abiding citizens no option to exercise their rights and continue to Force us to not be able to protect ourselfs and our loved ones in public spaces, no options is tyranny in our eyes.Their fear of firearms should not rule our lives. We are Adults who can make our own decisions unless we act in away which threatens public safety allow us to make our own decisions;)

If the NRA continues to take
If the NRA continues to take the irresponsible stand they are now promoting, I do believe gun confiscation is going to be a necessity, along with a temporary suspension of the 2nd Amendment to wipe the slate clean. Today, the current 2nd Amendment is only suitable for a nation that is expanding Westward. That was fine two centuries ago, but not today. We need a solution that is relevant to the 21st Century.

The NRA proposed that the police initiate procedures to minimize the possibility of mayhem in schools. How is this irresponsible?
OH.....I See.... It dawned on you just how many police will have to hired to protect the schools. You might even be one of them.

Ex post facto law! You see if he does this, then I get elected as Governor and pass an anti abortion law that deems it murder to do. And that it should be punished by death. Then I can then find all records of abortion and put all the women in the chair!
People don't listen to people like this (as I should have not) who have never read the Constitution but would rather tell that their opinion is the way and only way we should live.

Suspending constitutional rights? How very liberal........indeed the parties seem to be switching platforms again.
