Dennis P. Williams, the Democratic mayor of Wilmington, Delaware, is both a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and a concealed weapon carrier, according to Another Gun Blog.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) is a gun control group that unites politicians to push for stricter gun control legislation. MAIG recently launched a massive advertising campaign centered around the National Day to Demand Action, hoping to garner support for upcoming gun control legislation.

Mayor Dennis P. Williams, along with hundreds of other politicians, is one of MAIG’s members. Somewhat surprisingly, he also carries a concealed weapon permit. In all fairness, MAIG is primarily against illegal guns and Williams has a legal permit, so Williams isn't necessarily doing anything shady.

Gun rights advocates are crying foul, arguing that Williams is playing the role of a hypocrite as he strips from others the rights that he regularly enjoys. According to Delware Online, “Williams said he took his firearm into Legislative Hall – and sometimes onto the House floor – while a state representative.”

This isn’t the first time that members of MAIG have sullied the organization’s slowly deteriorating reputation. Gainesville, Florida mayor Craig Lowe was arrested last month on DUI and property damage after the police found him asleep in his car at the scene of a crash. Noramie Jasmin, the mayor of Spring Valley, New York, was recently accused of accepting major bribes. Former mayor and MAIG member Eddie Alberto Perez was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption-related charges. The NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action has compiled a rather extensive list of illegal activity by MAIG members.

These politicians seemingly “Do as I say, not as I do” attitude isn’t winning over any gun rights advocates, especially as members of MAIG fall under close scrutiny for felonies and other major crimes. The anonymous writer of Another Gun Blog doesn’t mince his words when he writes, “I look at such men with contempt.  Why are their lives any more important than yours, mine, or a single mother in Wilmington?”
