When the father of a 16-year-old girl looked into his daughter’s bedroom around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday morning, he found that she was not alone. A 17-year-old boy was also in the room with her.
The daughter reportedly told her father that she did not know the teen, and that they had not been together in bed.
The father, who had a gun with him, asked the teen to identify himself and told him not to move. The man then called 911. As Fox News reports, the father “saw the teen reach for something,” leading him to open fire on the teenager.
The teen, who did not have a gun, was killed.
The man’s daughter later confessed that she did know the teen. The Houston-area family has not been identified.
The incident began with one of the man’s other children notifying him that someone was in his 16-year-old daughter’s room. The girl’s younger brother had seen two feet stick out from under the bed, and told his father.
The shooting happened inside a home on Bridgestone Ridge near Bridgestone Path.
“You just feel terrible for the families,” one neighbor said. “You just kind of reflect on both of these families’ lives have changed forever.”
Harris County Precinct 4 Deputy Constables were the first to arrive at the scene after someone called 911 at around 2:30 a.m. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the shooting.
The father was taken away from the home in an ambulance for treatment of an unrelated medical situation. Constables said the man appeared to be on several medications.
Although no arrests have been made at this time, detectives have indicated that they are going to refer the case to a grand jury.
A neighbor said that the family had just moved in about a week ago. “No, never spoke to them. Never even seen them. I saw the moving trucks, but I never heard a peep out of them,” the neighbor said.
