Earlier today, 52-year-old Jeffery Barton, a resident of Vancouver, Wash., pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal aiming and discharging a firearm. What was his defense? The Vice President told him to.

In February of this year, Vice President Joe Biden was asked by a concerned parent in a televised interview how law abiding citizens can defend themselves in the face of gun restrictions.

“If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shot gun,” Biden said. He even mentioned his personal home security discussions with his wife. “I said, Jill, if there’s ever a problem just walk out on the balcony here or walk out, put that double-barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.”

Barton took this advice to heart and on Monday, he did just that. Suspicious of nearby teenager intruding on his property, Barton fired two warning shots with his shotgun.

“I did what Joe Biden told me to do,” Barton told reporters. “I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air.”

However, law enforcement officers do not take their orders from the Vice President. According to local officials, current law does not allow a citizen to discharge their firearm unless the situation is life threatening.

Mrs. Vice President should be wary of her husband’s advice.
