Male Pro-Gun Advocates Threaten Female Gun Control Activists (Video)

Some male pro-gun advocates are threatening female gun control activists in a disturbing trend that seems to be spreading.

Mother Jones reports that a firearms instructor in Florida recently posted a video (below) on the Facebook page of the pro-gun control group Moms Demand Action that showed him shooting a Moms Demand Action target.

"Happy Mother's Day," the man proudly said at the time, but has since refused media interview requests.

Jennifer Longdon (pictured), paralyzed since 2004 by a gunshot wound, told Mother Jones that she was spat in the face while waiting for a flight out of the Indianapolis airport on April 25.

Longdon is part of the gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety, which was meeting in the city at the same time as the pro-gun National Rifle Association (NRA).

Longdon also recalled an incident back in May 2013 when she took part in a gun buyback program in Phoenix. Longdon says a pro-gun advocate said to her, "You know what was wrong with your shooting? They didn't aim better."

Another man told Longdon, "I know who you are" and announced her home address. Longdon says that night when she went home, a man with what appeared to be a rifle was waiting for her. He shot her with water and cackled, "Don't you wish you had a gun now, bitch?"

Shannon Watts, who founded Moms Demand Action, told Al Jazeera in 2013 about the threats she has seen posted online against her and other women.

“I didn’t even know that underbelly of America existed,” said Watts. “The sexuality that seems to be intertwined with guns. The threats of rape and constant sexual insults and threats seem to be tied in with the very aggressive gun activists.”

The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action has been repeatedly harassed by the pro-gun group Open Carry Texas, which has showed up at Moms Demand Action events carrying rifles.

On April 10, a member of Open Carry Texas in Plano, Texas, reportedly posted a video on YouTube with the name and cellphone number of a woman who'd called the police after witnessing armed men walking on a freeway (video below).

The woman, who is not a member of Moms Demand Action, received text messages and voice mails that called her a "stupid b----" and "mother------ whore" and "a piece of s---."

"I really felt strongly about not changing my cellphone number, I'm not going to be intimidated," the woman told Mother Jones. "But it just got to the point where it's not worth it."

Open Carry Texas stated in a Facebook post (which has since been removed) on April 13: "Gun control bullies are all up in arms over this video published by one of our members. If you don't want your name publicized, simply don't make a false 911 call against law abiding gun owners."

CJ Grisham, the founder of Open Carry Texas, told Mother Jones. "Our point in doing that is to expose the kinds of people that are complaining about our rallies. I would've personally done it differently, even though the personal contact information is public information."

Gun advocates and members of Open Carry Texas have also participated in "mad minute" protests at a firing range, in which they shoot a female mannequin who is posed with her hands raised in surrender. They posted a video of the shooting on Facebook.

Robert Farago, who runs attacked the Mother Jones article because some of the victims gave first person accounts, but even Farago admitted to Al Jazeera in 2013, "A lot of people who are pro-gun rights feel open carry is antagonizing people and hurting the cause. And other people who believe open carry is the cause [they’re fighting for] and… we need to expose people to firearms to normalize them.”
